👋 The person behind UpaSmartHome
About UpaSmartHome
Last updated: October 12, 2026
UpaSmartHome is built and run by Pavels Urbanovics, an individual software developer in Latvia. It isn't a big company. One person writes the software, publishes the guides on this site and answers the support email.
What I build
- The controller software runs on a Raspberry Pi with Zigbee2MQTT and Mosquitto. It drives room-by-room heating, boiler and pump relays, schedules and alarm sensors, and it keeps working when the internet is down.
- The UpaSmartHome apps for iOS and Android, plus Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Matter and Amazon Alexa integrations.
- The optional cloud relay at upanet.org adds remote access and push alerts without port forwarding.
- The starter kit is a ready-to-flash bundle for people who don't want to source the parts themselves.
How it's run
The app and the local, self-hosted mode are free. The Self-Hosted plan never contacts upanet.org at all. The paid cloud plan and the kit pay for development. If something breaks, or you want a device supported, email me directly. You'll get a reply from me, not from a ticket system.
