What is upaHome and how does it work?
upaHome is a local-first smart home automation platform powered by Raspberry Pi and Zigbee2MQTT. It connects wireless temperature, door/window, motion, water leak, and vibration sensors directly to multi-channel relay modules and boiler heating circuits with sub-millisecond local response times.
Does upaHome require an internet connection or subscription?
No. Core automations, Zigbee device pairing, heating schedules, relay toggles, and Apple HomeKit work 100% locally on your home network without internet. An optional cloud subscription is only needed for remote access outside the home, push notifications, and Google Home or Amazon Alexa voice control.
Which voice assistants and smart home ecosystems are supported?
upaHome natively supports Apple HomeKit (local Siri & Apple Home app), Google Home & Google Assistant (voice commands, thermostat controls, and real-time state sync via Google HomeGraph), and Amazon Alexa.
What hardware is included with the Complete Starter Kit?

How does automated boiler and multi-room heating work?
Each room with a wireless temperature sensor functions as an independent thermostat. By matching labels between room sensors and relay channels, upaHome automatically switches boiler pumps, motorized zone valves, or electric heaters to maintain your exact target temperature in each room.
Can I use my own Raspberry Pi or third-party Zigbee sensors?
Yes. upaHome runs on standard Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 hardware and supports thousands of Zigbee2MQTT-compatible devices, including SONOFF, Tuya, and Aqara sensors, plus Tasmota-flashed Wi-Fi relays.
How do I set up Raspberry Pi Wi-Fi without a monitor or keyboard?
You can configure Wi-Fi on a headless Raspberry Pi directly from the upaHome mobile app over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) in seconds—no Ethernet cable, monitor, or keyboard required.
Is there an open API for custom integrations and self-hosting?
Yes. Every upaHome controller includes a full REST and WebSocket API with interactive OpenAPI / Swagger documentation at /docs/, allowing you to build custom dashboards, scripts, or connect your own backend servers.
